The Holidays are quickly approaching with means one thing. BLACK FRIDAY. But the fact that Black Friday starts earlier and earlier each year is Black Friday really even a thing anymore? Retailers are starting to start their sales at the beginning of the Black Friday week and run them all week long. Personally I have already done a ton of shopping and today I just purchased from a Black Tuesday sale. So what exactly is the point of Black Friday if it starts at the beginning of the week now? I always thought it was insane when retailers decided to open on Thanksgiving and then open extremely early that Friday. Opening early the Friday after Thanksgiving is totally understandable but on Thanksgiving? Here is a look at some interesting statistics from the 2016 Black Friday shopping season.
Spending
- 154M+ shoppers
- $45B+ total sales
- $290 average spend per shopper
Marketing - 36% of shoppers only purchased "on sale" items
- 71% of purchases influenced by marketing seen in Sept / Oct / Nov
Purchase Influencers
- 64% Free shipping
- 50% Limited-time sale
So from the looks of the statistics 2016 Black Friday was a huge hit and each year it only continues to grow. For most retailers it look like their marketing strategies paid off seeing that they had 71% of purchases made that were seen by customers in the previous months leading up to the sales.
