How travel industry is using mobiel apps by Monica Zurek

Big Data is transforming many different industries and changing the way the work. One industry it has had a big effect on is the travel and tourism Industry. It has gave this industry many different ways to improve, better reach and understand audiences and just enhance and grow the industry as a whole. In one way the travel industry is using this data is with and through mobile apps.

The graphic below from Goodworklabs.com shows how tourism apps are being use and the percentage of how many. Travel companies can than take this information and better help personalize offers, advice or vacation ideas, find out where people like to travel, real-time data, and much more. This is enhancing and personalizing the travel industry.

Two examples to support this graphic and of how different travel companies are using mobile apps is Delta airlines' real-time baggage and Royal Caribbean's (cruise line) on ship mobile app.

Everyone has a fear of losing their luggage, Right? Well Dealt airlines solves that by creating their luggage tracking app. This app allows you to track your luggage the whole way, prevent less lost luggage and increasing customer satisfaction.

Cruise ships are massive and one can get very lost trying to find the right path. Royal Caribbean created an app to help and practically be the passengers' digital assistant. It navigates around the ship, uses face recognition to make exiting more efficient, and make ordering to decrease lines, etc. available on it. This enhances passenger's experience as well as can allow Royal Caribbean to better understand consumers' wants and needs. Also by better understanding the cruise line can better individually personalize offers or anticipate needs from loyalty members.

Using digital analytics and technology helps both these companies and many others stay competitive. Many other travel companies are using apps as seen in the graphic but this is just how two major companies are using big data to transform the way they do business.
