Influxes within the Beer Industry

The current state of the beer industry is something to be looked at as thousands of craft breweries around the country are popping up. In the past few years craft beer has become a serious competitor to big beer companies mainly due to the millennial generation. Big beer like Anheuser-Busch and Millercoors products are still the most widely consumed beers. In a recent article from the Chicago Tribune; “For the first time, the 3 best-selling beers in America are light beers”. With bud light being the top beer knocking off the King of Beers (Budweiser), then comes Coors Lite and Miller Lite narrowly surpassing Budweiser.

Analysis over 2017’s beer sales have shown that the four beers mentioned have all been suffering drop in sales, especially Budweiser falling 3 spots on the domestic totem pole. With Budweiser at the bottom, the top beers in the country are now all lite beers. This comes to no surprise as data gathered from sales reports, focus groups, and public opinion has shown Budweisers decrease in popularity in recent years.

Anheuser-Busch is a titan within the big beer industry with numerous beer brands that are now seen as relics as times change. Beers like Natural Lite, Busch Lite, and Busch are beers that small demographics drink such as blue collar rural americans with Busch Beers, or college students with a budget beer like Natural Lite. There are still markets for these aging beers, but those niche markets aren’t serving Anheuser-Busch sales.
