If there's a will, there's a Way.

Steve Way, a decorated, British marathon runner, uses his Garmin Forerunner 935 to track his training and marathon progress. Way uploads all of his runs to Garmin Connect, an app that pairs with his watch and serves as a social hub for him. This app also lets Steve create new workouts, build courses and challenge friends to compete. During a run, Steve Way says he refuses to listen to music because he likes to think about running while he is running. He focuses on hitting effort levels and is more likely to be looking at his stats on his watch.

The four main fields he keeps on the main screen of his watch are performance condition, average pace, heart rate, and amount of time in the current lap, which is great for interval training. Interestingly enough, the runner doesn't usually log his sleep or diet. However, during the week of a race, he will track his carbohydrate intake to the exact number to ensure the proper amount to prepare his body for race day.

Steve says that uses the Performance Condition on his Garmin Forerunner 935 to give him a score for his work out. It uses his heart rate, pace and heart rate variability and stress to score his workout. He says that although he has been running long enough to know his body and limits, he likes using his watch for immediate backup to tell him that he's not recovered from a previous workout. Way claims that wearable fitness trackers have played a massive part in his journey and helped him get to the stage of competitive running.
