When students are on campus its important they are able to communicate with the school. This is a way for the University to promote themselves and get to know their students. In this blog post I will talk about some of the ways UNL connects with its students.
First, they have the basic social media platforms. They have a Facebook for the school that posts what events are going on, connect with alumni and post what achievements they have. I've noticed that a lot more of these posts are articles and things that the school wants to be shared. They also have a twitter that they mostly share the same articles on. This platform is also used to talk to students directly by responding to their tweets. Twitter features a tool that will let you track the activity of your tweets. They can track how many views the tweet has and how many interactions it has produced.
UNL is also very active on Snapchat. Every week they have students do snapchat take-overs. Anyone is able to have the day to show other students their day around campus. This is a cool way for students to see what everyone else is doing on campus. They also have a "What's Up Weekly" snapchat story where they post fliers about what events are being put on. They advertise to screenshot the story if you plan on going to the certain event. I think this is a very smart and easy way to monitor the popularity in their snapchat because they get an exact number of screenshots, and on the students end, they have the flier screenshotted so they won't forget the information.
Instagram is probably the biggest account that the University uses. The main UNL account has 30,000 followers. This page is used to post about broad things happening within the school. There are other separate accounts that post more specific things like, Barstool 'Skers, Faux Pelini, Husker Football, and so many others. Many students follow these separate accounts to look at different content.
