Utter Decimation of New York Giants Receiving Core After Week 5 Loss

Coming into the 2017 NFL season many were predicting that the New York Giants would be playoff and even Super Bowl contenders. But the squad has started the season slow losing its first five outings. Along with those losses, Sunday afternoon provided the Giants with a few more that basically have ended their season only a quarter way through. Superstar Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a fractured ankle in a gruesome collision during the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Giants. Beckham was seen grimacing in agonizing pain and even crying on the field. Seeing the injury live, it was not a pleasant sight and even got shouts from the living room I was watching it in.

Even earlier in the game wideouts Brandon Marshall, Dwayne Harris, and Sterling Shepard all went down with injuries leaving the Giants with only one wideout for the remainder of the game. Harris, Marshall, and Beckham have all been ruled out for the season as of Monday night leaving the Giants with many questions. First, who is going to play receiver for them? All they have remaining after Sunday is Roger Lewis. But they have signed Tavarres King in free agency, along with Travis Rudolph off their practice squad. Hopefully, these young unproven players can be some sort of light in this dark time for the New York football Giants.

Other questions remaining are, what is to happen with Brandon Marshall? This was supposed to be his 12th season, and the one where he finally got to the playoffs. Will the veteran retire? Or will he come back from his surgery better than ever? Nike is facing a tough time ahead as well with OBJ being out. They had planned to release a new signature shoe for him for every game this season. He is Nike's highest paid football player making about $5 million annually. That is a lot of revenue that they are going to be missing out on.

With twelve weeks left in the season, there is a lot more football to be played. Hopefully the Giants can recover from their 0-5 start to this dreadful season. But in due time the games will give us the answers to our abundance of questions.
