Basketball Season is Upon Us

By Kyle Kardell

Believe it or not basketball season is here. The NBA is in full swing as there is much excitement built from the offseason and all of the trades. Golden State looks to build their already impressive resume as they look for their third title in four years. Cleveland looks a little different without All-Star Kyrie Irving, but additions of Dwayne Wade, Derrick Rose, and Isaiah Thomas keep this team very relevant. Boston will be a force in the east with the addition of Kyrie. In the West Oklahoma City has added star power to compliment Russell Westbrook with the addition of Paul George and Carmelo Anthony. San Antonio will be steady as always under coach Pop.

College Basketball is right here too with exhibition games already underway. Nebraska heads into the season with much optimism with loaded transfer talent. They should be athletic and fun to watch this year in the vault. Kentucky will continue their trend of young cats to keep their National Title dreams alive. Not far down the road their in state rival Louisville is dealing with major problems after their scandal. Kansas will be the powerful team in the midwest and they will actually face Nebraska in Pinnacle Bank Arena this year in mid December. Duke and Carolina are sure to be contenders when it comes to march as well with the Tar Heels taking the title last year.

While all this is happening the World Series just wrapped up with the Houston Astros claiming their first crown in history beating the LA Dodgers 4-3. College football is hitting the most exciting time of the year where every single game means so much towards playoff implications and bowl births. The first release of the college football playoff rankings came out this week and with a little surprise Georgia took the number 1 spot with Alabama at number 2. Notre Dame and Clemson rounded out the top four with Oklahoma and Ohio State close behind. It will be a fascinating ending to the college football season as conferences sift out their champions and post season becomes a reality. If you like sports this is the best time of the year so grab the popcorn and enjoy.
