Is Christmas Coming Earlier Each Year?

By: Megan Wurzelbacher

I don't know about you guys but I feel like each year, Christmas is coming quicker and earlier than ever. Don't get me wrong, I am one of the people who sets up their Christmas tree November 1st but how early is too early for stores to be pushing ads and decorations for the holidays? I recall being in Hobyy Lobby this summer and they already had a third of the store dedicated to Christmas trees, ornaments, and all kinds of other decorations. It is almost as if retailers tend to skip over the other important holidays like Fourth of July and Halloween to get right to the peak financial earning time of the year.

It's not just with Christmas either. I remember getting so excited for black Friday and dying of anticipation to see what sort of deals they would release the week of. I have been getting e-mail since end of November prompting me to check out different stores Back Friday ads and the pre-black Friday sales they have going on. In doing so, people are starting to prepare and charge forward into the holiday's much earlier than they used too. Some retailers do not even wait for Halloween to pass before setting up decorations and playing Christmas music.

The holidays have gone from a matter of weeks to a matter of months. Retailers have realized that this is their peak time to sell and want to capitalize on it for as long as possible. With online websites such as Amazon and Ebay taking over the market, Big name retailers are left scrambling to fight over the clientele that is left and needing the maximum amount of time possible to do so. Don't get me wrong, I am all for Christmas coming early but surpassing other Holidays and starting in June is a little too far.
