After the first World Wide Web server and browser had created by Tim Berners-Lee in 1990, it has opened for commercial use in next year. In 1994, the secure shopping channel has developed while the growth of the internet. Following the networking technology blossoming, both of the Amazon.com and eBay launched their own online shopping sites immediately in 1995. Online shopping, as a form of electronic commerce which offers consumers to purchase goods and services from the sellers over the Internet networks directly, has been commonly used at present. While the developing on the technology of platforms in recent years, there are various platforms allowed customers using for shopping, like desktop computers, tablet computers, laptops, and smartphones.
According to a study from Pew Research, there shows eight in 10 Americans are now shopping online.
Combined with the survey and search on bigcommerce.com, we can find that 51% Americans exhibited they prefer to shop online and eCommerce is growing 23% year-over-year.
There are billions of businesses and opportunities flow in online shopping field at present. While the e-commerce transaction is rising, the social shopping is also rising. The use of social networks for online shopping is booming now and it looks like to bright its future in following.
Social shopping is a method of e-commerce, which use social media as a platform to attract customers with their social media friends sharing, it attempts to mimic the social interactions of physical malls and stores.
The first social media launched by Yahoo! In 2005, it developed the concept of the social shopping as to enabling online shoppers got obtain pieces of advice and support from their reliable friends or experts.
In 2015, the social shopping started to play a big role in e-commerce, "more than $30 billion was generated directly from different social networks," the Social Media Explorer reported. There is an increasing number of customers had purchase goods and services via the social networks year-over-year.
As a mainstream of social media in worldwide, Facebook became a big part of social shopping in a ration. With 1.65 billion users, Facebook had created a great impact on e-commerce marketing. One of the shopping strategies ran on Facebook was Store Locator, where brands and companies can drive their locational specific ads to send customers where their the nearest store is. Through running the Store Locator ads, the brand can build contact with the Facebook users and advertise their stores for locational advantages.
Instagram also plays a big role in social shopping. Brands and company could advertise their product by the Instagram users' sharing and tag with brand names. Through viewing the photos of product sharing, the Instagram users can get the product information and click the links directly to the purchase page.
While our lives are filled with more social and networks,
online shopping is already becoming a part of our daily life, so the social shopping does. There are still many opportunities for markets to explore the eCommerce. The rising of the social shopping is a great instance.
