Locowise reported in March the engagement rate on Instagram v. Facebook. The results are:

Facebook: Among Internet users 72% use Facebook.

Facebook is most popular among the 18-29 age group with 82% of users in this age group. 79% between 30-49, 64% between 40 and 64.

Summary

Bottom line is choosing the right platform all depends on what you are looking for to achieve your goals. Facebook has higher numbers and more total users but Instagram has better statistics in engagement and content sharing. Facebook allows you to send a specific message to a specific audience while Instagram can too but if you want to reach a younger demographic, Instagram is the better platform while Facebook is better if you want to target an older generation.  Overall, Choose the one that best fits your audience and campaign goals!
