Welcome back, everyone! This week on the blog, we're going to talk a bit about how data can make traveling, and travel companies, unique. It is a bit similar to last week's topic, but were we go!
While our individual traits and personalities make us unique, the same goes for travel companies. All companies have to try to "out do" their competitors, and using data can help you do just that. Big data can help you personalize travel packages to cater to your biggest group of customers, or you can even cater to one single family based on the data they provide.
Take a look at Expedia, a multi-billion dollar travel company. I visited the website, entered in a vacation week that I picked just for fun in Hawaii, and selected a few things I wanted to do and amenities for a hotel. Within seconds, I was given a dozen flight options and hundreds of hotels that all matched the specifications I made.
Or take a look at Zicasso, a luxury travel company outside of San Jose. They run pretty much the same way that Expedia does, and like most other travel companies, you enter this and that and what you want to do, and it will recommend packages based on the data you give, but also recommend other packages you might like based on people who have similar interests as you. Doing this has helped them build their image. Of their 347 Google reviews, only 15 of them are not a five-star-rating. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
Well, everyone, there you have it! Another quick post on the travel industry and data. Next week we'll talk a bit about how data can improve your company's future functionality!
Have a good trip!
