Three Quick Facts That Facebook Insights Can Tell You About a Page by Allison Kremer

What exactly does it mean when you "like a page" on Facebook? Is it that you need rapid updates? Is it that you are passionate about the topic? Or is it that you admire communicating with other fans? Whatever it is, there is data that is being collected. This blog post is for the curious, hockey fanatics that crave constant updates from their favorite team.

Let's use the Minnesota Wild's Facebook Page for an example. The Official Minnesota Wild Facebook Page is managed by team staff and is to be used as a community forum for all things Wild. The Wild maintains the right to remove postings that are off topic, sales related or contain inappropriate language.

As stated, the Minnesota Wild Facebook Page provides multiple opportunities to follow the team and socially engage with other fans through a variety of posts, but have you ever thought about what you provide the staff by being a part of their page?

Here are a three ways Facebook Insights helps the Minnesota Wild team staff enhance their page to better understand their fans and give them an outstanding platform to engage on.

1.    Likes
When you enjoy a post on Facebook, you frequently react to the photo by giving it a "like". In this case, if there is a photo of the team after a win against an opponent on your feed, you like it because it is good news. But what you don't think about is how the Minnesota Wild staff can gather information such as the demographics, and the location based off of those who liked the post. This is key for the staff to determine who the target audience is. With this information, they can customize their posts in the future to target that same audience or reach another. After all, it isn't just a "like", but a reaction with a significant amount of meaning to a business that cares about you and the updates you receive.

2.    Reach
Do you only check the fan page if you missed the game on TV? It's okay because you are not the only one. Thanks to the reach tool, the Minnesota Wild staff can explore how much of their content is being seen by the fans and more importantly, who is engaging with the page. Additionally, the reach tool in Facebook Insights will tell the team staff how exactly you arrived on the page. Did you find the Minnesota Wild on Facebook through an advertisement or did you specifically search for them in the search bar?

3.    Actions on Page
The Actions on Page section of Facebook Insights will tell the Minnesota Wild staff what you are doing on the page. For example, if you find yourself looking for access to their official website, the staff will be able to identify that you clicked on the website address. In short, what information is essential to their page?

Next time you see a post similar to one that you liked, know that it wasn't magic. It is simply just a smart group of people adapting to their customer's' needs and wants. But for now, let's cheer on the Minnesota Wild and continue to engage with their Facebook page.
