Airbnb and Big Data Success

Many of you have probably either heard or have used Airbnb. It is fairly new but a very fast growing industry. It's becoming the new way to travel. Many are skipping the hotels and going to find an Airbnb that is not only in their preferred price range but that has the right location, amenities and over all just vibe they are looking With their fast and large growth Airbnb used Big data and utilize in ways that could keep up with customers renting their place out and the renters expectations. This is a strong factor to their success.
So how are they using Big Data? Or more specifically how are they using your data to better the experience, marketing, etc.?
First Airbnb doesn't view data as just data or numbers, they look at it as "the voice of their customers". The look at each person's action and recreate the sequence you took to make the end decision. This helps find insights on what the customer likes and doesn't. They learn your language to make better decisions that will better suite the customer's needs and wants. These insight help Airbnb make decisions towards community growth, product development and resource prioritization.
With this data and insights Airbnb can make recommendations and match the right people together. They can find places that are perfect for the needed/preferred accommodations, like a specific city, apartment or house, pool etc. Airbnb interprets each customers desires based off of your online behavior.
