This week's blog topic is going to be a good one, we're going to talk about how analyzing data can help your travel company's future functionality. Basically what I mean is, analyzing data now can make future work a lot easier.
One of the best and most effective ways that travel companies can analyze their data is by monitoring social media!
The Amadeus Blog, run by Amadeus IT Company (an IT company based out of Spain that is a major influence on the global travel and tourism industry), has a great article where it discusses social media and analytics in the travel industry. The article's author, Rodrigo Acuna Agost, says that 90% of American travelers that have a smart phone share photos, videos, and experiences about their travels on their social media accounts. This is a great way to monitor who they're flying with, where they're flying to, what hotels they are staying at, and what they are wanting to do while on their vacation. With all of this information you can gather, it can potentially make next year's calendars a lot less hectic. Just for an example scenario, let's say Americans tend to fly to tropical destinations during the summer the most. Easy, promote your travel packages to those destinations in the months leading up to the summer. Or let's say most people who fly during the winter holiday season choose packages that are all-inclusive and include relaxing activities. Great. Promote those packages a few months in advance, or even better yet, promote them with a great sale on Black Friday (if Black Friday is your thing). See? The possibilities are limitless. Next year's calendar? You're already prepared.
