CCM"s Closing the Gap

By Mitchell Pangle

On October 31st , CCM will release the new CCM RibCor 40K producing the third stick line. CCM has made a name for itself in the stick market over the last few years as its usage across the NHL, competitive leagues, and beer leagues continues to rise. Three companies; Bauer, CCM, and Easton now all produce three hockey stick lines. Bauer includes two mid-kickpoint sticks in the Supreme and Nexus lines as well as a dual-kickpoint Vapor stick. Easton hockey carries two low-kickpoint the Velocity V9 and V9E sticks and one mid-kickpoint Synergy stick. CCM will now join in the mix with one low-kickpoint RibCor, one mid-kickpoint Tacks, and one variable kick-point RBZ.

According to Google Trends, over the past half-decade Bauer has been the hockey equipment leader worldwide in terms of interest. Recently with the development of stick technology, CCM has been closing the gap between itself and Bauer. In October 2012 Bauer had an interest rating of 95 while CCM had a rating of 19. Fast forward a half-decade later and Bauer has an interest rating of 57 while CCM has an interest rating of 40.  CCM's history dates back to 1899 with a rich history of being in operation for 118 years. On the other hand Bauer has been in business for a shorter time period, beginning in 1927.

Following the release of the new CCM RibCor hockey stick lines coming to market, the gap between Bauer and CCM should continue to narrow. Formerly the Reebok RibCor line, CCM's latest technology should continue to draw the consumers of the former Reebok Ribcor hockey line, ultimately closing that gap between the two competitors.
