On a normal year, most people could not care less about the NFL trade deadline. It's not like the MLB or NBA where trades and rumors are being shot at you left and right like a little kid with a Nerf gun on Christmas. It is usually filled with lousy trades of players nobody knows or cares about. But the 2017 trade deadline was as zany as ever with some teams making Pro Bowl additions to star studded rosters and others sinking to new lows that many thought were not possible.
Over the fifteen years the Browns have been the laughingstock of the NFL, they can't seem to do anything right. The last time they won a game on a Sunday was December of 2015 with none other than Johnny "Football" Manziel as their starting quarterback. One would think that you can't go much lower than being 1-23 over the last two seasons, but don't ever underestimate the organization that has had 24 different quarterbacks since 1999. Cleveland's front office can't even execute a minor trade for a backup quarterback from their southern neighbor in Cincinnati. While celebrating what they thought was a good trade for AJ McCarron, the boys at the top of this joke of an organization forgot to turn in signed trade papers to the league office. Let me say that one more time. The Browns front office forgot to turn in the signed trade papers to consummate the AJ McCarron trade by the 4:00 p.m. ET deadline. When I read this on Twitter yesterday I was flabbergasted. These are supposed to be professionals, they get paid millions of dollars to execute these easy tasks. But hey, maybe the Browns will bounce back from this debacle. My bet is they won't because the never do. It must be rough to be a Browns fan.
This summer Bill Belichick was fielding offers of seven draft picks from one team for a gem in Jimmy Garoppolo. For some reason he settled for one second round pick from the 49ers for Jimmy G. This one second round pick will not do anything to help a team with holes on both sides of the ball try to win another Super Bowl this year. Bill could have had it all, but it looks like once Brady is gone, so is he. The Patriots have no succession plan for the G.O.A.T. and it looks like coach B. doesn't care. It will be interesting to see what happens to the Pats once he and Tom walk into the sunset together.
The Dolphins are not the same playoff team as last year, they struggle to score and surprisingly only have three losses on the season. Those losses have been by an average of 25 points, but hey, who's counting. Jay Ajayi has to be ecstatic, he is going from a team that just lost 40-0 to 7-1 juggernaut that is running away with the NFC East. The Eagles needed a running back who could gain tough yards behind a debilitated offensive line but also protect their second year MVP candidate quarterback in Carson Wentz. This is a this-year move for the Eagles, a team trying to secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
