A World Series for the Ages

By: Logan Jurgens

Tonight is Game 7 of one the most exhilarating, back-and-forth World Series in recent memory. It is win or go home for the Dodgers and Astros. One game to determine who will be crowned champion and get to lift the Commissioner's Trophy to the skies basking in all of its glory.  Tune into Fox at 7:20 p.m. CST to watch the drama unfold.

Yu Darvish is taking the mound for the home team Dodgers and Lance McCullers Jr. for the Astros. Look for both teams to go to their bullpens early if needed with former Cy Young winners in Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers and Dallas Keuchel of the Astros available. Maybe a Madison Bumgarner like five inning World Series save is in store for us. The lineups are the same as Game 6 for both teams. The Dodgers are sticking with slumping rookie Cody Bellinger at cleanup. He has yet to get a hit at Dodger Stadium this series and struck out four times last night. But manager Dave Roberts believes in the powerful rookie to come through in this must win game.

Of the 113 Fall Classics, 38 have had winner-take-all games and home field advantage is not as important as your might think. The home team is just 19-19 with the visiting squad winning the last two, the Cubs in Cleveland last year and the Giants in Kansas City in 2014. 2017 has been the year of the home run with 6,105 home runs hit, breaking the previous record by 412. The World Series has been no exception, with two more home runs hit in Game 6, there have now been 24 hit in the Series, three more than previous record held by the 2002 Giants and Angels during the height of the steroid era.

The Dodgers have six World Series Titles but have not won the Fall Classic since 1988. The Astros on the other hand are still chasing that illusive first championship. If Houston sports history has anything to say on the matter, once they do win, they will probably win another one the next year. The Houston Rockets, Comets, Dynamo, and Oilers have all won back-to-back championships in their histories. So lets sit back, and hopefully see more home runs hit and enjoy one the most entertaining World Series in History. It's a winner-take-all game for both squads and it could be one for the ages.
