Love conquers all. At least that's what they say. Is it possible for differences in culture to become a challenge between two people in a loving relationship? Not surprisingly, aspects of culture such as language, expression, food and gender roles all affect a relationship in different ways:
1. Language – what happens when two people that speak different language are together? Communication becomes a bit troublesome and one partner must find a way to learn the other's language
2. Food – funny as this may sound, getting used to food from one's culture may make it difficult to adapt to another. How does a Chinese used to meat and veggies get along with an Arab diet that is mainly carbohydrates and meat without an ounce of veggies? How does a person used to home cook meals adapt to life with a partner that is used to fast food?
3. Expression – not all cultures are expressive when it comes to love. Some cultures leave in house issues to be discussed behind closed doors while other prefer to discuss them whenever they come up, even if it were in public
4. Gender roles – while some cultures believe in specific gender roles such as the woman being home maker while the man brings home the bacon, other more liberal cultures allow the switching of these two roles. A couple would have to adapt to each other's culture in such a scenario.
Differences in cultures may be challenging, but they may also be the main reason that two people in a relationship are attracted two each other. After all, is it not often said that opposites attract?
