Quick facts about Japanese Culture

Japanese culture has really evolved over the years due to influences from various parts of the world including Asia, North America and Europe. Important to note are the following facts about this culture:

1.     Japanese language is written using characters from Chinese scripts, the Latin alphabet and sometimes including Hindu-Arabic numerals as well. 

2.     Japanese music makes up the second largest music market in the world, coming only after the United States

3.     Visual arts is a strong part of Japanese culture, with a focus on painting, calligraphy, making of sculptures, woodblock prints (Ukiyo-e) and flower arrangement (Ikebana)

4.     The primary religions practiced in Japan are Buddhism and Shintoism 

5.     Japanese architecture is quite unique as is seen on the designs of temples, castles and religious shrines

6.     Gardens are a crucial part of Japanese architecture and are often found in most buildings including homes and institutions. 

7.     The traditional Japanese garment is known as the Kimono, and has gained so much popularity that it is featured in modern fashion. 

8.     Culinary culture in Japan is quite refined, and has become part of everyday staples in Europe and the United States. Popular dishes include Sushi, Teriyaki, Noodles and Tempura. The principle ingredients used in Japanese cuisine are rice, seafood and pickled vegetables. 

These facts are simply a tip of the iceberg; Japanese culture is wide and certainly continues to evolve with each passing day.
