Where to Eat in Lincoln this Week?

By: Kristen Koerber

If you're anything like me you love hearing about and trying new restaurants. After a quick Google Trends search, I found the five most popular food types in Lincoln, Nebraska: Chinese food (50/100 search queries), Mexican food (40/100 search queries), Italian food (35/100 search queries), Indian food (35 search queries) and Thai food (25/100 search queries). I eat out in Lincoln about four times a week so I would consider myself quite the expert when it comes to restaurants in this town. Here is a list of my favorite restaurants in each of the five categories:

#1 Chinese: Mr. Hui's, 32nd and Cornhusker Hwy

This underrated star is a little drive from campus but is well worth it. I highly suggest starting with the steamed dumplings, the sauce that accompanies this dish is also delicious. I recommend either the basil chicken or the shrimp rice noodles for your main course. You won't be disappointed when leaving Mr. Hui's.

#2 Mexican: Hacienda Real, Southpoint

Being a UNL student, I find it's quite nice to get away from campus once in awhile. Hacienda Real is an authentic Mexican restaurant with some of the best margaritas in town. They also have the best fajitas, so head there with your friends and order these. You won't regret a single thing.

#3 Italian: Vincenzo's, Haymarket

If you're looking for authentic Italian cuisine, look no further than the Haymarket, UNL students. Some of the items on the menu can be rather pricey so maybe save this location for special occasions. My personal favorites are either the margherita flatbread or the baked lasagna. The homemade mozzarella and sauce in both of these dishes is making my mouth water just thinking about them.

#4 Indian: The Oven, Haymarket

I've eaten Indian in some of the biggest cities in this country but The Oven still remains one of my favorites. The Reshmi Kebab is loaded with garlic and ginger flavors, I highly suggest it.

#5 Thai: Thai Garden, 13th and Q Street

This quant authentic Thai restaurant is a favorite among the locals. I order the ginger chicken each time I eat here. This dish can be kind of spicy so ask for it mild if you're not a fan of the spice, or if you want to kick it up a notch: ask for it to be extra spicy. They make each dish to order so you can customize it however you like.

I hope this post inspires you to try at least one new restaurant this week!
