Smart Farm for People

9 billion. That’s the predicted amount of people that will need to be fed daily starting in the year 2050. Smart Farming technology and methods are the key solutions to the sustainable future of our earth and its people - farmers and consumers. Take a look at University of California Davis's Big Idea thoughts on Smart Farming...

This concept plays a vital role in changing the hearts and minds of consumers who would rather be unsupportive of agriculture practices. Radical animal rights and anti-GMO activists have spoken their minds about their personal opinions on farming practices. Through emotional arguments, a wave of their movement began to grow. Many now worry the food they consume has not been produced correctly, harms animals and isn’t nutritional.

The truth is that much of our nation is disconnected from the land and simply does not understand what it takes to produce food anymore. With the birth of the Internet and Big Data, the agriculture industry has and continues to harness it to innovate with new methods and practices. Smart Farming is a concept that can be used to prove to people that the industry is doing all it can to produce high yields of food in sustainable and safe ways. Through data collection, people will be able to see the detailed results of farmers practicing this way. This will also be a way to keep farmers in check through annual and real-time reports.

This concept also has an effect on the peoples’ job market. The mass amount of data that can be collected now can be overwhelming.  It will require more education to dive in deep and convey results to help the industry. This means a new, promising career avenue and thus more jobs for people.

Smart Farming will give the population peace of mind when they are consuming their food at dinner, and farmers will finally have continuous support from the public to push through on those late harvest nights.
